Kookaburra

Never before did birds peak my interest but with the strange creatures residing in Australia, you can’t help but be fascinated. Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting the Kookaburra, pronounced as "Cook-a-burra". You cannot miss the Kookaburra, with its incredibly loud call, an instant morning alarm clock. They are compared to sounding like human laughter, and trust me they’re loud (click here for some audio clips and here for a video clip). We were able to get up close and personal when two landed on a rotating clothes line (which are common here, a great Australian invention, called a Hills Hoist). Native to Australia and New Guinea (which is only 1700 miles away from Sydney, strange), I had never seen a Kookaburra in person before. Short, fat, and furry (but supposedly super fast), they sat there for about twenty minutes and let us admire them until they flew off to find something alive (a mouse, a snake, a lizard) to eat…
